Today, January 22, UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric confirmed that the United States is no longer a member of the World Health Organization (WHO).

“They are no longer participating in the work of the World Health Organization,” Dujarric said during a briefing for journalists.

Dujarric emphasized, however, that the UN would like to see the United States participate in the WHO, like any other country.

Trump accused the organization of mismanagement during the COVID-19 pandemic and being overly influenced by China.

The United States officially withdrew from the World Health Organization on January 22, 2026, exactly one year after President Donald Trump’s executive order initiated the process.

With Trump’s supporters arguing that withdrawal protects American sovereignty and economic interests, critics warn of significant economic harm and ceding influence to countries like China.
