Several new polls show Donald Trump regaining his lead over Vice President Kamala Harris.
Today, a national Rasmussen Reports poll showed Trump leading Harris by 3 points (49% to 46%). The gap was 1 point larger a week ago, but what matters here is what’s happening at the state level. And at the state level, the dynamics are clearly in Trump’s favor.
A Cook Political Report poll released last week showed Harris beating Trump in Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. A New York Times-Siena College poll, also released last week, showed Harris leading by a small margin in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.
But on Tuesday, August 20, a Navigator Research poll showed Trump leading Harris by 1 point in Arizona (46% to 45%) and by 2 points in Pennsylvania (46% to 44%). The other three states are tied.
It’s worth paying attention to the betting markets, where Trump has regained his lead over Harris after three weeks of being behind. Of the six major sportsbooks tracked by RealClearPolitics, Trump leads in five. Before this week, the oddsmakers had favored Harris.
And that’s despite the fact that, according to a study by the Media Research Center, from July 21 to August 17, Harris and Walz received 82% positive press coverage, while Trump and Vance received 90% negative coverage on ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News. Despite the strong support from the corporate media, Harris has begun to lose ground.
So what’s happened in the last few days? Harris simply opened her mouth and made a few statements on the economy, after which Trump began calling her “Comrade Kamala,” and the Democratic Party convention in Chicago showed that all that such Democratic leaders as the Obama-Clinton couple are capable of is vicious attacks on Trump and shameless racial demagogy.
The undisguised hatred of Trump destroys the only thing attractive about the Harris-Waltz tandem — an empty but “positive” atmosphere, or, as Kamala’s PR people call it, “joy.”
But the main thing, obviously, is the growing understanding that “joyful” Kamala is not capable of solving the problem of inflation, protecting the border with Mexico, making up for the loss of almost a million jobs, and ending wars. And the more Harris talks — by the way, I am eagerly awaiting her speech at the Democratic Party convention today — the lower her rating will fall.
