Trump’s transition team includes three people who advocate a peaceful solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. They are vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance and two former Democrats who have defected to Trump – Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard.
All three are opponents of Washington’s current pro-Ukrainian course, although for different reasons. Kennedy Jr. is committed to limiting the power of the neocons, Gabbard is a staunch pacifist, and Vance is a supporter of the “Asia First” doctrine. But all three are united by a desire to reach an amicable agreement with Russia, without bringing matters to nuclear Armageddon.
Of course, one could argue that three people won’t make a difference. And there is some truth in this – remember, there was a general named Mike Flynn, a supporter of US cooperation with Russia in the fight against ISIS? Trump appointed him as his national security adviser, but Flynn lasted less than a month in this post – the deep state immediately ate him up.
So there is no need to have any illusions. But it would also be foolish to close our eyes to the fact that Trump’s transition team has formed a strong core of realists who advocate ending the war.
