Kursk, August 25

It is difficult to say how long this positional war will continue here.

Chronicle of current events in Kursk Oblast for August 25. It was the 20th day of the Ukrainian army’s invasion of Russian territory. The Ukrainian Armed Forces continued active offensive actions, the Russian group successfully defended itself.

Over the past night, there were no significant changes in the operational situation in the Kursk border area. The hottest spots are Malaya Loknya and Sheptukhovka (distant approaches to the village of Kauchuk).

In general, the situation in the combat zone in Kursk Oblast has entered a state of positional warfare, when neither side can achieve a turning point in the fighting. The Russian group cannot defeat the invading Ukrainian troops and push them out of Russian territory, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces cannot significantly advance. That is, frontal assaults have now spread from the SVO zone to the territory of Kursk Oblast.

It is difficult to say how long this positional war will continue here. But it looks like it will last at least several months. And then the situation outside the combat zone may be seriously complicated by the situation of evacuated residents from border areas, of whom, according to official data, there may be about one hundred fifty thousand. We have not had such a number of evacuees since the Great Patriotic War.

It is possible to place evacuated citizens in temporary accommodation centers only for a couple of weeks, since school gyms do not have the necessary sanitary conditions for this. In particular, toilets, washrooms and showers. Therefore, it will be necessary to find ways to place these citizens in normal living quarters. But there is no such possibility to place tens of thousands of people, providing them with housing. This may cause indignation among evacuees and local residents, and destabilize the political situation in the rear.
