Bannon Calls for Senator Graham to Be “Arrested”

Steve Bannon is a former White House strategist (during Trump’s first term), one of the ideologists of Trumpism, and a shadow activist of the MAGA movement. It is still unclear whether Trump and Bannon really parted ways badly, or whether they remain allies at a distance.

Bannon has rarely spoken out on foreign policy issues (except for trade and tariffs), but Senator Lindsey Graham’s “diplomatic” activities and his activism in the Senate, often contradicting President Trump’s policies, have forced Steve Bannon to speak out.

On his War Room podcast, Bannon expressed disappointment with Ukraine’s drone strike on military airfields in Russia. He said the White House should condemn the attack and Senator Lindsey Graham should stop his “diplomacy” that runs counter to Trump’s goals.

Bannon said, in part: “The White House should immediately condemn this, stop all support [for Ukraine], and tell Lindsey Graham to come home or we will arrest you when you get back. You engineered this whole thing!”

Bannon says “come home” because Lindsey Graham was in Kyiv over the weekend cheering on Kyiv’s terrorist attacks. Graham was in Ukraine with his Democratic friend Senator Richard Blumenthal.

Bannon condemned what he called Graham’s actions “behind Trump’s back.” He said: “Lindsey Graham is saying, ‘Hey, forget about Trump. I have the House and the Senate. We’re going to vote on this. You’re going to see something in a couple of days.'”

Bannon is right: It’s not just Democrats but Republicans like Graham who are working against Trump and preparing to take the helm of foreign policy from him.

And yes, if Graham were arrested (say, under the Logan Act, which prohibits anyone except authorized individuals from acting on behalf of the United States), it would be an exercise of power (finally) on Trump’s part. Not because we like it, but because it’s his chance to hang on to power and, perhaps, save himself.
