At a press conference after a meeting with the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the current President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he does not see a fundamental difference between Ukraine and Israel.
If Israel’s allies help shoot down Iranian missiles and drones, then why not do the same for Ukraine. — “The joint shooting down of Iranian missiles over Israel is no different from the shooting down of Russian missiles over Ukraine.”
Zelensky added that he expects a change in NATO’s approach. Let the alliance join in the active defense of Ukraine’s skies. In fact, Zelensky is laying out his long-standing dream and last bet: to draw NATO into a direct military confrontation with the Russian Federation on Ukrainian territory.
NATO as a whole and the alliance countries individually are categorically stubborn. They say, we help, but we do not participate. There is no sign that this position will change. Worse, given Kyiv’s long string of military defeats, even outside aid is likely to be cut back.
