Republicans are politically conservative, and they are suspicious of ‘government.’
Consequently, they hated everything Soviet, that is, Socialist. Democrats, on the other hand, are blatant Russophobes, whose Russophobia was put on steroids ever since Brzezinski and his grouppies took over the foreign policy establishment.
Smart as Brzezinski was supposed to be, he couldn’t control his Polish prejudices and paranoias, and imposed them all on naive, silly or cynical Democrats. While Russians were the part of the Soviet Union, it didn’t matter, so the country was viewed as a dangerous yet thuggish rival by both parties. But with the collapse of the Soviet Union, things change.
I remember reading Conservative intellectual, Jeanne Kirpatrick and how impressed I was with her sympathy for thousands of Russians suffering from soviet style decrepit socialism. So while numerous Republican leaders were rather sympathetic toward the “New Russia“, the same can’t be said about Democrats, who continued to malign and abuse the country, until they found a perfect villain, Putin.
And to bring Republicans to their side, the light-weights like McCain, they resurrected the idiotic myth, that Putin wants to bring back the Soviet Union. The rest was the matter of the technique and propaganda, including the gift that keeps on giving: Russian interference in the election. They played it eight years ago, and now they are playing it again.
The funny thing is that there are actual cases of prominent Democrats taking brides from everywhere. Now Bob Menendez is caught red-handed, or rather gold-pocketed with the gold from Egypt, now Linda Sun, who was top official the New York democratic machine, is caught spying for China, taking bribes in the form of Ferrari along with dinners of salted duck, now the wife of another prominent pundit is caught spying for South Korea.
These are the facts, widely discussed by western press. Yet, they don’t make any dent into the thinking of Democrats. What matters is Russians under your bed, tirelessly working on election interference. Not economic inequality, not the social, cultural or emotional frustration of the great chunk of population which feels alienated from its cynical, bribes taking leadership. No. It is Russia’s subverting Democratic institutions and other cherished principles.
Haven’t we heard it all before from all sorts of pogromists blaming various marginalized groups? Of course we did. Democrats had perfected the art of lynching in the XIX century south, by the way. So they surely know how to play it.
