This came the day after an emotional hearing in Congress, where she was blasted by representatives of both parties.
Kimberly Cheatle, director of the United States Secret Service (USSS), resigned following her questioning by the House of Representatives.
The hearings went horribly. She was not only unable to answer any question clearly, but also exposed herself as a completely incompetent person. This is a minor sin in today’s Washington, but in this case, for five hours, a long-forgotten bipartisan consensus was established.
Cheetle was reviled by Trumpists, globalists, and socialists. At the hearing, both Democrats and Republicans asked Cheatle to resign. She invariably answered, “Thanks, no,” but a day later she was forced to make a logical decision.
It is believed that her immediate boss, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who himself has been sharply criticized for the state of affairs at the US southern border, insisted on her resignation.
Of course, Cheatle is not alone to blame for what happened at the Trump rally. However, she demonstrated complete ignorance of the situation in Congress and unwittingly lifted the curtain behind which legislators and US citizens saw a corner of the picture of the appalling disorder and collapse of management in the USSS.
P.S. Longtime US Secret Service official Ronald Rowe appointed as acting director.
