In fairy tales, the battle with the dragon has long been the main feat of every knight-hero, but sometimes in real life even from a child no less than genuine heroism can be required.

What boy didn’t dream as a child of becoming a hero and definitely fighting the most terrible dragon? After all, defeating the dragon always meant saving the princess and other lives, and this is the best goal for a real hero.

Dutch animators Albert ‘t Hooft & Paco Vink told one such story in the film “Paul and the Dragon,” but their hero is faced with the need to defeat a deadly dragon that has settled inside him.

This modern story is about how one day a boy, Paul, suddenly felt ill, and his parents took him to the hospital to see an experienced children’s doctor. After several tests, the doctor diagnoses cancer. But the boy does not understand what is happening to him, and how numerous medications will help. He only feels pain and fear. Then the doctor explains to him that the cancerous tumor is like a dragon in his body, which must be fought.

Like a true hero, young Paul decides to fight the dragon with useful medicine and the love of his family. And overcoming all difficulties and tests of courage, he wins.

Of course, first of all, this film is for children with cancer and their families. The film portrays a sick child as a hero who must fight for his life against an evil dragon inside his body. Thanks to this unexpected metaphor and exciting animation, children will learn about the problems and questions that arise in a child with cancer.

With such a funny fairy tale about a boy’s struggle with a dangerous tumor, the authors initiated a serious conversation about the disease to help any sick child and calm his fears.

Undoubtedly, this film is very important for those who are faced with such a terrible “dragon”, and not only they need it, but also every viewer, the film will help to better understand how necessary our support is for children diagnosed with cancer.
