Having chosen the reasonable option, Trump must come to terms with the outcome of the Ukrainian war in Russia’s favor. Agree with Moscow. Help it bring the current regime in Kyiv to a “controlled incomplete defeat” with the results recorded in international legal documents. And to promote the creation of a new balanced system of collective security in Europe – with Russia as a co-author and guarantor.
A suicidal option is to try to turn history back. To try to pressure Moscow into giving up its extremely dearly paid for conquests. To retreat. To give up the main demand (Ukraine can only exist as a neutral, demilitarized state friendly to Russia and its culture). That is, essentially to demand that today’s Moscow commit political suicide in front of the entire world.
Of course, neither Trump nor anyone else will ever achieve anything like this from Russia. But having fallen into madness, Trump can publicly demand something like this from Moscow. And threaten with terrible punishments. A complete oil and gas blockade, a ban on all payments in Western currencies, terrible 500% secondary tariffs on buyers of Russian energy resources, etc.
And the supply of some particularly dangerous types of weapons to Ukraine.
Then the global economy will go into recession, the markets will be tossing between the floor and the ceiling, the war will intensify, but its course will not change. Trump, having made the already lost “Biden war” his personal defeat, will ruin his presidency and bury the MAGA movement to the delight of his opponents in America and around the world.
Can anyone stop Donald Trump from ruining himself and his plans with his own hands 6 months after coming to power?
