One of the stumbling blocks is the war in Gaza.
The left wing of the Democratic Party is unhappy with the actions of the party establishment and the Israeli lobby, which are consistently removing pro-Palestinian legislators from Congress, mainly from the “Squad”, who adhere to radical left-liberal views and at the same time oppose Israel’s policies.
In recent weeks, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has already managed to ruin the re-election chances of two left-wing Democrats. AIPAC invested heavily in their opponents in the primaries and won.
The latest example is Congresswoman Cori Bush, who lost the primary to Wesley Bell, whose campaign received generous donations from Israeli lobbyists. Previously, Squad representative Jamaal Bowman lost his primary. And again, with active opposition from AIPAC.
Lobbyists spent $24 million on both campaigns against anti-Israel lawmakers. This alone has become a reason for calls to organize protests at and around the Democratic primary conference and to protest the procedure for virtual voting for Harris and Walz.
The choice of Tim Walz as a vice-presidential candidate, who, according to the Harris campaign, was supposed to cool the passions of the left wing of the party, had the opposite effect.
Since the candidacy of Josh Shapiro, a Jew by nationality, who tried to speak from a moderate pro-Israel position, was rejected, the left saw that their voice was listened to, so it is quite possible to get the Democratic leadership and the Biden administration to take a tougher stance towards Netanyahu.
And so the left is already planning protests in Chicago from August 19-22, when the party’s primary conference will be held there. It is also worth remembering that the influential Obama clan was effectively removed from the decision-making process regarding the selection of the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, and this clan has not yet had its say.
