CNN reported: “President Donald Trump’s hopes for a quick meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin may be dashed after sources familiar with the situation told CNN that a preliminary meeting of key foreign policy advisers to world leaders planned for this week has been postponed, at least for now.”
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov reported: “You can’t postpone something that hasn’t been agreed upon. We haven’t confirmed what some Western sources wrote yesterday. We had no agreement whatsoever on the timing or location of such a contact.”
Last Thursday, Trump announced after a phone call with Vladimir Putin that the two sides “agreed that a meeting of our high-level advisers will take place next week.” And further: “Initial meetings in the United States will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other individuals to be appointed.”
In accordance with this agreement, Lavrov and Rubio spoke by telephone. Media outlets reported that the meeting would take place on October 23, also citing unnamed sources. Now, those same sources say the meeting was not agreed upon, meaning “something went wrong.”
Well, the attack on the potential summit in Budapest has begun. The “Europeans” (or, more accurately, the liberal Western elite) will do everything possible to prevent the meeting from taking place, and even if it does, to disrupt it. For now, we’re dealing with a media attack on Trump. And then comes the European farce. For example, Politico reports: “According to one diplomat familiar with the matter, who, like others cited here, was granted anonymity to speak candidly, some EU leaders will lobby for Trump and Putin to attend the meeting, as well as for Zelenskyy to participate in any negotiations.”
Kaja Kallas, of course, is a nobody, but she warned back in April: “There will be no implementation.” However, the Europeans have also been unable to draw the US into the conflict to the level of Biden’s involvement.
