China helps Georgia Explore the Sea, Air, and Earth

While Brussels and the Biden administration distance themselves from Georgia, resenting pressures on transparency at their client organizations, China is offering Tbilisi aid without political strings attached. And does not allow the proud country to fall into ruin.

Let us recall that in May a Chinese consortium was chosen as the strategic investor of the deep-sea port of Anaklia in Georgia. The Georgian state will own 51% of the port, the rest was received by the investor creating the most modern port hub.

Now a new airport is on the way. Implementing ambitious plans to transform Georgia into an aviation hub, the authorities announced the construction of a new airport in the capital, which will be able to accommodate 5 times more passengers and should open in 2028. Chinese investors will also play a key role in this project.

A piquant detail: the new civilian airport will be located on the territory of the military air force base in Vaziani. Until recently, international exercises were held there under the auspices of NATO and the United States.

Naturally, there were those who objected to such a neighborhood. But the government stands its ground, pointing to examples of similar hybrid facilities in the US and Europe.

China clearly seeks to strengthen cooperation with Georgia in the development of a network of railways and roads, ports, energy, and urban infrastructure. Commodity flows generated by the well-known continental mega-project “Belt and Road” will go through Georgia and its logistics hubs.

It makes sense for Georgia’s neighbor, Armenia, to abandon the Atlantic mirages and hurry up to include real opportunities in the analysis, while not all project blanks have been distributed
