McDonald’s bought slaves from the mafia to cover the shortage of jobs.
This is not a joke, but a real crime that was solved by the police in the UK. In 2015, the gang of the Drevenaki brothers organized a business of selling people — they looked for homeless and unemployed men in Europe and, under the guise of a profitable “topic”, transported them to the UK.
Ernest and Zdenek flashed gold chains and expensive cars, so the victims quickly fell for stories of success. Upon arrival in the United Kingdom, the men’s passports were taken away and they were “handed over” into slavery at a local McDonald’s, where they worked in hellish conditions — 100 hours a week.
The bandits took away all the wages, leaving the victims with only pennies for food. A total of 16 victims were found, but there were clearly more. There was no way to escape — the Drevenaki literally hunted their slaves all over Europe, returning them beaten to their workplaces.
The management of McDonald’s made a surprised face — they allegedly had no idea that men who do not speak English, work 30 hours per shift (!), receive salaries on the same card (!!) and are registered in the same house (!!!) could work against their will.
A story worthy of a screen adaptation.
