Democrats May Nominate Harris Before Party Conference

Some Democrats expressed their support for Harris, others remained silent, but it was assumed that the final decision would be made at the party conference in Chicago.

These plans, despite Harris’ victory march, may not please many Democrats.

Initial plans to hold virtual votes for delegates selected from the primary were due to conflicts between the Democratic convention schedule and Ohio law, which sets the filing deadline for party candidates on the state ballot as Aug, 7.

Ohio subsequently decided to make an exception for the US Democratic Party in 2024 and officially informed the Democratic National Committee (DNC) of its agreement to accept documents after August 19 (when the Democratic party conference opens).

However, DNA said that the plans have not changed, the vote will be in July, or at the very beginning of August. The statement said the Democratic Party cannot be at the whim of the Republican-controlled Ohio Legislature. However, then it was clear to everyone that the head of DNA, Jamie Harrison, was striving at all costs to nominate Biden as a presidential candidate as quickly as possible in order to avoid trouble at the party conference amid growing doubts among Democrats about Biden’s ability to continue the fight.

Biden then dropped out of the race and work began to push Kamala Harris as “the only candidate who can beat Trump.” Some Democrats expressed their support for Harris, others remained silent, but it was assumed that the final decision would be made at the party conference in Chicago. And a number of publications reported, citing their sources, that DNA still intends to hold a virtual vote and nominate a candidate before the party conference. They even name the date — August 7th.

Once again, the formal basis for early voting is the “Ohio factor.” However, it is clear that DNA is again in a hurry to close the matter, this time with Harris, thus preventing any possible surprises in Chicago. If the media reports are true, this may not please a significant portion of Democrats. They will think that this is too much.

Well, let’s see if there is at least someone left in the Democratic Party… no, not with principles, but at least with the ambition and strength to resist manipulation.
